2012 Fantasy Football Handcuff Picks

Fantasy Handcuff pick: A player with good potential and high risk. Players in this category are usually backups to high profile running backs. It is unlikely that they will score a lot of points, but if the starter goes down they'll be a safe start for at least a few weeks. It is important to draft these players to hedge the bet on your starting RB getting injured. From our Fantasy Football Dictionary

We have classified the following players as fantasy handcuff picks for 2012. We will be updating this list throughout the pre-season.

Name Pos Team Age Yrs
Exp.
Pos. Rank
Jamie Harper RB --- 25 1 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

The 4th round pick out of Clemson didn't have much production in his rookie season as he finished with just 44 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries. Harper was listed as 3rd on the depth chart for most of the season behind Chris Johnson ... Read More
Rashad Jennings RB NYG 30 3 RB - #40
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Jennings missed all of 2011, but says he is fully healthy and ready to take back the backup duties for MJD. The Jags don't rely enough on their backups to rate Jennings as anything more than a handcuff (and maybe not even a good one). If M... Read More
Felix Jones RB --- 28 4 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Bad news for anyone who typically avoids the Felix Jones hype train: many more people are now on your side. After laboring through the Cowboys' first five games last season, injuries slowed Jones (shocker!) and DeMarco Murray happened. Bot... Read More
Dion Lewis RB NE 24 1 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

The 5-foot-7 sparkplug remains LeSean McCoy's backup, though the starter's three-down ability makes it tough for anyone else to receive playing time. Diminutive size could limit touches if ever thrust into starting lineup, but Lewis produ... Read More
Kyle Orton QB --- 32 7 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

The best part about the Cowboys signing Orton is that now whenever the inevitable Tony Romo injury pops up, the backup will produce at least 75-80 percent of the starter's production. That is a major step up from the depths of Jon Kitna. Q... Read More
Isaiah Pead RB --- 25 R Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Drafted 50th overall, Isaiah Pead represents the highest pick the Rams have spent on a running back since they took Steven Jackson at number 24 back in 2004. Pead will likely begin his career as a situational player, but should... Read More
Bilal Powell RB NYJ 26 1 RB - #77
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

The 2011 season was Powell's rookie year. In limited action Bilal saw 13 carries, which totalled just 21 yards. Unless something happens to Greene, Tebow and McKnight Bilal won't see more than a handfull of touches this season. Couple ... Read More
Brady Quinn QB --- 30 5 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

The Chiefs added some depth at the quarterback position this off season when they signed Quinn. After losing Cassel to a season ending hand injury, they realized having a quality backup is a necessity. Quinn hasn't played a down of footb... Read More
Javon Ringer RB --- 28 3 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Ringer struggled mightily in 2011 and is entering a contract year in 2012. He'll compete with second-year RB Jamie Harper to be the #2 RB on the Titans' depth chart. Ringer's third season ended in week 13 (hand injury) and he failed to imp... Read More
Ben Tate RB --- 27 2 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Despite being behind Arian Foster on the depth chart last season Tate had a pretty good year. In 15 games Tate carried the ball 175 times for 942 yards and scored 4 touchdowns. Not too bad for a backup running back. If you're an Arian Fost... Read More
Tim Tebow QB PHI 28 2 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

When the Jets signed Tebow, everyone began to wonder how he would fit into the offense. At first Rex said the Jets would run a two quarterback offense. Then a few weeks later Rex said Tebow could see as many as 20 snaps a game. If the l... Read More
Daniel Thomas RB --- 27 1 Unranked
FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Last season was Thomas' first year in the NFL. In 13 games Daniel carried the ball 165 times for 581 yards with no rushing touchdowns. This year we don't expect much of an improvement in Thomas' numbers. Daniel will likely spend most o... Read More
