Week 6: Pickups of the Week

Players who may be available in your league, that are worth considering adding to your roster. This week's picks include David Carr, Gus Frerotte, Brian Griese, Kurt Warner, and Earnest Graham.

Waiver Wire Watch: Looking Ahead to Week 6

As we head into week six of the NFL season, here are some possible pickups that might still be available in your league...

MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%

Reports are that Jake Delhomme is out for the season, thus Carr becomes the starting QB for the Carolina Panthers. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect much because he has been very inconsistent in his career, but he should have a few good games when it is a good matchup. If you are desperate to pick up a starting QB, then fantasy owners can consider Carr.

Due to Marc Bulger's injury situation, the veteran Frerotte stepped in going 24 of 43 for 262 yards and 3 TDs, plus 3 interceptions in the loss to Arizona. It is unknown how long Bulger is expected to be out and the Rams face a tough matchup at Baltimore this coming week. If you are in a very large league, a league that starts two QBs, or just very desperate for a QB due to all the injuries at QB the last few weeks, then pick up Frerotte because it appears he is the starter for the Rams for the time being.

MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%

Griese looked much better in his second start, helping lead the Bears to a win over their divisional rivals Green Bay on Sunday night. In his two games since taking over for the struggling Rex Grossman, Griese has been 34 of 52 for 286 yards, plus 2 TDs, with 3 interceptions, and 15 of 25 for 214 yards, plus 2 TDs, with 1 interception. He has good matchups in his next three games versus Minnesota (#29 pass defense), Philadelphia (#17 pass defense), and Detroit (#30 pass defense).

MyFantasyLeague availability: 100%

Warner has been splitting QB duties with Matt Leinart the last few games, but Leinart was injured in Sunday's game and Warner will now be the Cardinals' starting QB. In the last three games, Warner has thrown for 580 yards, with 4 TDs, and only 1 interception. Warner has been effective in his limited playing time and has shown he still has something left in the tank. I would recommend fantasy owners picking up Warner if you are looking for a QB, because he can add a quality backup to your roster, be a bye week fill-in, or a starter for those in need of a QB.

I named him in last week's article, but it now appears that Graham is the only healthy RB for the Buccaneers after Michael Pittman left the game against the Colts with an injury and expects to be out several weeks (Cadillac Williams is already out for the year with an injury). If you have a roster spot available, then I would pick him up simply because you can never have too many starting RBs, especially this year with all the injuries in the NFL.

With the Colts' starter Joseph Addai out with an injury, Keith ran all over the Tampa Bay defense with 28 carries for 121 yards and 2 TDs, plus 5 receptions for 37 yards. Although he is an NFL rookie, the 27 year old Keith has spent the last few years in the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. We recommended that all Addai owners have Keith as a handcuff several weeks ago, so hopefully they had him, but if he is still a free agent in your league then I would advise picking him up for a roster spot. Indianapolis is off in week six and Addai should return after the bye week, but Keith is still worth a roster spot for fantasy owners.
