Strategy session: Inside a drafter's mind

One writer shares his final draft plan and Week 1 lineup insight

Hello all, welcome back to another fun filled season of fantasy football. Normally, I write a weekly article that is aimed at helping guys make a decision on whom to start, when they are stuck in a jam due to injuries, bye weeks and so on. These players will never be considered studs, but based on match-ups and injuries that have moved these players up on the depth chart, they might be worth a start on a certain week.

For week 1, I will be doing something a little different. As I do every season, when it comes to week 1, I fully recommend everyone going with their gut and sticking with the guys they drafted first for each position. This isn't the week to try and be cute and start some guy you drafted in the 13th round. Below you can see the team I just drafted (12 team PPR), the starter and why.

I draft in a 12 team league. Snake Draft. 4 points for passing TDs, 1 point for every 20 yards passing, 1 point for every 10 yards rushing/receiving, 1 point per reception for WR/TE and 0.5 point per running back reception. Our rosters are filled with the following starters (QB, RB, RB, WR/TE, WR/TE, WR/TE, Flex (RB/WR/TE), K, Def/SP) and 9 bench spots filled by any position. This draft has been going on for over 15 years. We do not draft QBs early and guys aren't afraid to start the draft with back to back WR. I had the 9th pick and this was who I drafted and then who I will start this week.

1. A.J. Green

2. Matt Forte

3. Chris Johnson

4. Hakeem Nicks

5. Ahmad Bradshaw

6. Miles Austin

7. Emmanuel Sanders

8. Matthew Stafford

9. Danny Woodhead

10. Malcolm Floyd

11. Knowshon Moreno

12. Kenny Stills

13. Sidney Rice

14. Robert Woods

15. Jarius Wright

16. Phil Dawson

17. Packers D

18. Michael Cox

Based on the team I drafted, I will be starting Stafford, Forte, Johnson, A.J. Green, Nicks, Austin and Bradshaw at flex. I chose Bradshaw at flex because I think the Colts will easily beat the Raiders and therefore be running the ball.

As mentioned earlier, have confidence in the guys you drafted high and start them in week 1.

During the remaining weeks of the season I will be writing about more random guys, that are not studs or locks to starts, but based on injuries, or bye week or match up, they make for a good start.

Good Luck this week!
