Week 2: Pickups of the Week
Not Greg Jennings, not Cordarrelle Patterson, but rather Jerome Simpson led the Vikings with seven receptions for 140 yards against Detroit. Fantasy players have done back flips over Simpson's potential in the past, only for the eventual letdown. That could happen here, especially with Christian Ponder as his QB. But until we know which of his targets Ponder likes best, Simpson is worth owning in deep leagues.MyFantasyLeague availability: 10%
Dwayne Allen entered the 2012 NFL Draft as one of the top TE prospects. Selected by the Colts in the third role, his path appeared blocked because Indy also snagged Coby Fleener in round two. Last season the Clemson alum out produced Andrew Luck's Stanford teammate. Fine, but Allen missed a chunk of the preseason with a foot injury, opening the door for Fleener's emergence. Yeah, that didn't happen. While Fleener flopped, Allen recovered. He turned his only catch in the Colts' season opening win into a 20-yard touchdown before later exiting with a hip injury (MRI came back negative). Fleener's lone catch went for seven yards. In a perfect world these two options would be separated; pretty sure Tampa Bay or Oakland would take one of them on. In this reality, Allen is the one producing - 45 receptions for 521 yards and three scores as a rookie. If he plays this week - we'll know more Wednesday, but initial reports are positive - Allen faces a Miami defense that had no answer for Cleveland's Jordan Cameron last week.
