Week 3: RB Roundup

We take a closer look at the current and future backfield scenarios

Jacksonville Jaguars

Maurice Jones-Drew (starter); Jordan Todman; Justin Forsett; Denard Robinson

Current scenario: Maurice Jones-Drew has done very little in the way of offense this season. In the Jags' first two games, Jones-Drew has just 73 all-purpose yards. In Week 2, MJD sprained his left ankle, making his status for Sunday's game against the Seahawks uncertain. If he can't go, Todman will be the Jags starting back with Forsett involved. Against a tough Seattle defense, there is no reason for fantasy owners to want Jones-Drew or Todman in their starting line-up. The way Jacksonville's offense looks right now, that statement applies against most defenses.

Future scenario: At one time in his career, Jones-Drew was a must start each week. That's not the case this minute, but don't give up on him just yet. The Jags offense can only get better, right. Right??? Against the right defense, Jones-Drew can still produce, but the rest of the offense must do their part.

Detroit Lions

Reggie Bush (starter); Joique Bell (handcuff); Mikel Leshoure

Current scenario: It should come as no surprise to anyone that Reggie Bush may miss Sunday's game. In Bush's seven years in the NFL, he has played in 15 or more games just three times. Now his left knee could keep him off the field for a tasty matchup against Washington. If so, Joique Bell will get the start. Mikel Leshoure, inactive the first two weeks, would be activated in that scenario.

Future scenario: Bush is the starter and off to a strong statistical start. Bell is a quality handcuff. Scratch that. He's a viable Flex option already, especially in PPR formats. The Lions have a potent passing attack and fantasy owners should want either on their roster. For the long haul, both are more effective when the other can share some of the workload.
