Week 8: Sleepers of the Week

Lesser-known players who deserve to start this week due to matchup or other circumstances. This week's picks include Derek Anderson, Trent Edwards, Brian Griese, Jesse Chatman, and Kevin Jones.

Here are 10 players who can be plugged into fantasy lineups if owners have bye week or injury issues.

FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Derek Anderson and the Cleveland Browns travel to St. Louis to face the winless Rams in week eight. Anderson has been great so far this season, throwing for nearly 1500 yards and 14 touchdowns in only six games this season. Anderson has also added two rushing touchdowns and eight interceptions. Anderson has a good match-up this week against a Rams defense that cannot stop anyone. The Rams have allowed at least 22 points in each of the last five games and the Browns should be able to move the ball through the air this week. Anderson has formed a great connection with wide receiver Braylon Edwards and they will continue to light up opposing defenses this week. Fantasy owners can expect 200 yards and two touchdowns from Anderson this week.

FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Trent Edwards and the Buffalo Bills travel to New York to face the 1-6 Jets in week eight. Edwards has been very steady since taking over for J.P. Losman as the Bills' starting quarterback. Trent Edwards' best game so far this season came in week four against the Jets. In this game, Edwards completed 22 of 28 passes for 234 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Edwards should be able to have a similar game this week against a below average Jets secondary. If your starting quarterback is injured or on a bye week, Edwards is a good fill in for fantasy teams. Look for at least 175 passing yards and one touchdown from Edwards this week.

FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Brian Griese and the Chicago Bears return home to face the Detroit Lions in week eight. Since coming in for an ineffective Rex Grossman, Brian Griese has done a great job leading the Bears' offense. Griese has thrown for more than 1200 yards and eight touchdowns in four starts for the Bears, including two consecutive three hundred yard passing games. Griese should have another very good game this week against the Lions defense that is ranked in the bottom five in the league in pass defense. The Bears have struggled to run the ball effectively this year, so they are going to have to rely on their passing attack this week. Fantasy owners can expect 200 yards and at least one touchdown this week from Griese.

FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Jesse Chatman and the Miami Dolphins travel to London, England to face the New York Giants in week eight. Chatman takes over in the Miami backfield following a season ending injury to Ronnie Brown last week against the New England Patriots. Chatman will get every chance to succeed with no other experienced running backs on the Dolphins roster. After taking over for an injured Brown in week seven, Chatman was effective against the Patriots, although it came in garbage time. Chatman will need to carry the load with Trent Green and Chris Chambers no longer around in Miami. Fantasy owners can expect 75 total yards and one touchdown from Chatman this week.

FANTASY PROFILE / STATS & MORE

Kevin Jones and the Detroit Lions travel to Chicago to face the Bears in week eight. In his return to the starting lineup in week seven, Kevin Jones ran for 76 yards on 15 carries, caught six passes for 34 yards and added one touchdown. Fantasy owners who held onto Jones have to be ecstatic at the amount of touches Kevin Jones received in week seven and also for the fact that Mike Martz allowed Jones to carry the ball inside the five yard line. Jones should be a good fantasy running back for the remainder of the season and I would not hesitate to play him this week against the Bears. Fantasy owners can expect 80 total yards and one touchdown from Jones in week eight.
