Week 8: Pickups of the Week
The Colts are on their bye week, making this a big picture shoutout. Reggie Wayne is done for the season with a knee injury, brutal, obviously. Fantasy owners can mourn away, but it's time to pick up the pieces of your tattered squad. One place to start is by picking up the player not named T.Y. Hilton whose value increases most with Wayne out. Look, Heyward-Bey will never ever live up to his former top 10 NFL draft status. DHB's hands are so brutal it almost seems redundant to make he-cannot-catch-a-cold jokes. Still, he possesses blinding speed, the kind that allows him to turn a short pass into a long gain. Still, he's arguably the Colts' new No. 1 receiver. Still, even without Wayne, expect the Colts to throw more and more seeing as its wise to keep the ball in Andrew Luck's hands rather than those belonging to the plodding Trent Richardson. Tread lightly with weekly usage especially since Indy's upcoming schedule isn't terribly appealing, but DHB has risk-reward WR3 value as long as Luck remains in the lineup.MyFantasyLeague availability: 3%
Things I learned today: Not all MyFantasyLeague.com owners read FFToolbox's Pickups article. That's the only rationale I can come up with for Reed being owned in less than 50 percent of leagues as of Tuesday morning. We've only trumpeted the rookie's roster worthiness in this space since Week 3. FFT ranked Reed inside the top 15 among tight end's over the past two weeks. For those waiting for more, playing the stubborn card or just not paying attention, THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO GRAB REED OFF WAIVERS. The pass-catching threat blitzed the Bears with 134 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions in Week 7. More importantly, he further established himself as no less than RGIII's second's go-to target after Pierre Garcon. At a minimum, Reed's Week 8 matchup is against a Broncos defense allowing the seventh most points to fantasy tight ends. The team reported he suffered a hip pointer against Chicago, but nothing looks that serious. Reed looking like a TE1 going forward, now that is serious.
