Week 8: IDP Studs and Sleepers

We take a look at Week 8 IDP action, from the starters and those free agents worthy of starting or stashing

Here we are with another batch of waiver wire possibilities with rest of season potential, weekly must-start studs and one-hit wonders who can help you more than you might expect for your IDP needs.

The following players are my own personal choice to have an excellent game. Call it clairvoyance, but it's more about matchup and situational awareness. I will try to pick a player who isn't rostered in most leagues, so you can find someone who would otherwise be on your bench or waiver wire. I'll try to hold myself accountable by noting how the previous week's suggestion performed. Defensive statistics, on a per-game basis, are heavily dependent on individual matchups and can be even more "predictable" than offensive stats.

DT: 2-2 | DE: 1-3 | LB: 3-1 | CB: 1-3 | S: 2-2

Last week's pick: Jared Odrick, Miami Dolphins – 2 tackles, 1 TFL (miss)
Kendall Langford, St. Louis Rams: Since Seattle remains so heavily committed to the run, there are a lot of opportunities for defensive linemen to pile up numbers. The Seahawks are allowing the fourth-most points to DL.

Last week's pick: Tyson Jackson, Kansas City Chiefs – 2 tackles, 1 assist (miss)
Justin Smith, San Francisco 49ers: In what shouldn't be a close game, Smith is an excellent option. Jacksonville is giving up the second-most fantasy points to DL and that includes a league-worst 18.5 sacks to DL.

Last week's pick: Lawrence Timmons, Pittsburgh Steelers – 12 tackles, five assists (huge hit)
LaMarr Woodley, Pittsburgh Steelers: The Raiders are giving up the most fantasy points to linebackers. Whether it's sacks or tackles, Woodley can provide numbers in a multitude of ways.

Last week's pick: Sean Smith, Kansas City Chiefs – 1 tackle, 1 PD (miss)
Bradley Fletcher, Philadelphia Eagles: Fletcher consistently plays nearly 100-percent of snaps and faces off against Eli Manning and his league-leading 14 INTs.

Last week's pick: Jamarca Sanford, Minnesota Vikings – 10 tackles, 2 assists, 1 FF (huge hit)
Baccari Rambo, Washington Redskins: Injuries and Brandon Meriweather's suspension will force the rookie back into the starting lineup. The Broncos offense has allowed the second-most tackles per game by DBs.

These players have to be in your lineup every week, regardless of opponent! These lists are in no particular order. Each player is listed by position, which assumes you must start a player at that position.

DT: Dontari Poe, Jason Hatcher, Ndamukong Suh, Jurrell Casey, Kyle Williams, Michael Brockers, Marcell Dareus
DE: J.J. Watt, Carlos Dunlap, Osi Umenyiora, Sheldon Richardson, Muhammad Wilkerson, Calais Campbell, Jared Allen, Mario Williams, Adrian Clayborn, Robert Quinn
LB: Karlos Dansby, Daryl Washington, Kiko Alonso, DeAndre Levy, Paul Posluszny, Sean Lee, Alec Ogletree, NaVorro Bowman, Daryl Smith, Mason Foster, Vontaze Burfict, Erin Henderson, Lavonte David, Luke Kuechly, Jerod Mayo, DeMeco Ryans, Jerrell Freeman
CB: Tim Jennings, Buster Skrine, Alterraun Verner, Terence Newman, Deangelo Hall, Prince Amukamara, Charles Tillman, Richard Sherman, Brandon Carr, Chris Harris, Brandon Flowers
S: Barry Church, Earl Thomas, Da'Norris Searcy, Major Wright, Tyrann Mathieu, T.J. Ward, Bernard Pollard, Reshad Jones, Duke Ihenacho, Johnathan Cyprien, Eric Berry

Chris Jones, New England Patriots
Injuries to Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly have dramatically increased Jones' snap count. He's a borderline must-add if he keeps this up.

Clinton McDonald, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle's heavy defensive line rotation limits the high ceiling potential of McDonald. That said, Seattle's defensive line is so effective that even half of one player seems to outproduce the stats of a serious majority of DTs.

George Selvie, Dallas Cowboys
If Selvie could stay healthy, he'd be a Top 10 DE. Lucky for you, he's likely available on your waiver wire. After bouncing around the league for five seasons, it appears Selvie has finally found his way in Dallas' defensive front.

Cedric Thornton, Philadelphia Eagles
Thornton is on pace for some serious tackle numbers. He's already eclipsed his personal bests from his rookie year and could finish the year with nearly 60 combined tackles.

James Anderson, Chicago Bears
Anderson will be needed even more due to Lance Briggs' injury. The former Virginia Tech player already has a track record in years past with the Carolina Panthers as a reliable IDP scorer.

Darryl Sharpton, Houston Texans
Sharpton will be taking over for Brian Cushing. Occupying an ILB spot is typically the easiest path for a linebacker to score instant big points.

Brandon Browner, Seattle Seahawks
After sitting out the first two games of the year due to suspension, Browner has been back on the field and reminding fans Richard Sherman isn't the only shutdown corner on the roster.

Trumaine Johnson, St. Louis Rams
Cortland Finnegan's injury has increased Johnson's playing time. His stats come from his unreliable coverage skills. Luckily for him, he's a big corner who can handle hiw own 1-on-1.

Antrel Rolle, New York Giants
Rolle has flirted with fantasy relevance in the past, but was unable to consistently score points. With the Giants unable to keep anybody in front of them, this leaves Rolle in the back to eat up the table scraps.

Aaron Williams, Buffalo Bills
Buffalo has a long history of producing productive fantasy safeties. Williams is seeing a hefty share of playing time and is contributing like a DB3.
