Week 6: Game Time Decisions - Injury Updates
Following offseason back and multiple arms surgeries, the Gronk has missed the first five games of the 2013 season. Tom Brady has struggled with a depleted receiving corps as he has tossed just seven touchdowns through five weeks. Gronk missed five games last season, but has been a red zone monster when in uniform - totaling 38 touchdowns over three seasons. Reports suggest that Gronkowski is targeting a return this week against an improving New Orleans defense led by Rob Ryan. The Saints are allowing the eighth fewest fantasy PPG to tight ends as they have yielded just 36 YPG and only two touchdowns to the tight end position.
Olsen missed practice Wednesday after injuring his foot in last Sunday's loss to the Cardinals. He was seen in a walking boot early this week, but has vowed to return to practice Thursday and expects to be in uniform for a favorable Week Six matchup in Minnesota. The Vikings are allowing the second most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends and have yielded six touchdowns to the position through their first four games. Olsen is averaging a career best 68 YPG through the first four games, but has only reached the end zone once. The 28 year-old has had at least five touchdowns in each of the last five seasons and makes for an ideal buy low candidate for owners dealing with injuries (Owen Daniels / Brandon Myers).
Myers is dealing with an ankle injury, but was able to practice on a limited basis Wednesday. The Giants play on Thursday night, so the short week won't do him any favors for the matchup with a Bears defense that has struggled to defend the TE position (allowing 87 YPG to tight ends). Myers' first year with the Giants has been mediocre at best - he's averaging just 42 yards per game with one touchdown. With RB David Wilson sidelined this week, the Giants will be forced to rely even more on Eli and the passing game, making Myers a solid bye week replacement (if he's available on your waiver wire) for Tony Gonzalez owners and those looking to replace the injured Owen Daniels.
