Strategy session: Five-pack of fantasy insight from Standig, Atkins
4. Rest of the season: Philip Rivers or Russell Wilson?
Ben Standig: Rivers is rolling and Seattle is running. Through four weeks, Wilson has thrown 46 fewer passes than Rivers, a trend unlikely to change seeing as the Seahawks are 4-0. Neither quarterback has a dynamic wide receiver option, but Antonio Gates is playing at a Pro Bowl level and the aforementioned Woodhead makes more plays as a receiver than his Seattle counterparts.
Scott Atkins: Rivers hands down. It's hard to believe that after just four weeks I could be so easily swayed, but facts are facts. The Hawks are 4-0 and Wilson is the 22nd best fantasy QB in the league. Why fix what's not broken? We're witnessing a Top 5 fantasy season from Rivers.
5. Which Week 5 free agent pickup option has the most staying power: Brandon Pettigrew or Terrence Williams?
Standig: Let's keep this simple. Because of his role in the Lions' offense and because there is no clear-cut second receiving threat behind Calvin Johnson, the answer is (or should be) Pettigrew - even with his penchant for empty calorie stat lines. Now, as long as Miles Austin is out, Williams has more weekly upside, but Dallas's third receiver rarely offers more consistent production otherwise. If I just wanted a lottery ticket type, then I'd keep Williams.
Atkins: I think Pettigrew will turn it around with Burleson missing from the offense. Stafford throws the ball 38 times a game. That should equate to plenty of opportunities for the petting zoo. Having said that, with Miles Austin's lingering hamstring injuries, there's a definite opportunity for Terrance Williams to produce. A 4th quarter fumble in Week 4 shouldn't tarnish what we saw. Seven catches for 77 yards on eight targets is a nice opening debut as starter in the Cowboys' offense. Add to that his touchdown history in college and if anything were to happen to Dez Bryant or Jason Witten, we could be looking at a fantasy stud.
