Week 13: Secret Stars

Life changing money. That's what this is about...

Life changing money. I'm not sure that's what this is about anymore. This is now a quest. It borderlines on an obsession. There's only one acceptable end game here. It ends with me winning a ticket in the Week 16 Fantasy Millionaire Contest. It started out about the money, but now it's just about winning and proving to myself that I can earn a ticket into the challenge. I've sat here and watched readers here at Toolbox, a good friend, my first cousin and a co-worker all win their way into the challenge. Well this week it's my turn. This is the week. This week, I'm punching my ticket. Let's get to it.

A quick refresher on what a Secret Star is:

The Secret Stars weekly article isn't suggesting the lineup you should use this week, rather its purpose is to identify players who represent extreme value at their current salaries for the week. Selecting one or two of these players at their discounted prices, will give you an opportunity to use high priced guys such players as Calvin Johnson and Rob Gronkowski in your lineup. Here are this week's Secret Stars:

QB: Ryan Tannehill $6,200 vs NYJ – Tannehill just put up 22 fantasy points against a very tough Panther defense. The team just lost one of its running backs Daniel Thomas to season ending injury and face a tough Jets run defense. They HAVE to throw in this game. The Jets have been beat for an average of 266 yards per game, 11th worst in the league, and have surrendered 20 Touchdowns to date. Cromartie will have his hands full with Mike Wallace's speed this week. Also considered: Alex Smith $6,700 vs the Broncos.

RB: Montee Ball $4,200 vs KC – This play makes too much sense if starting RB Knowshon Moreno can't go. Moreno has a bruised ankle and is day to day. Without him, the rookie gets his shot and while Peyton (yes we're on a first name basis) will try to hold things down, there's still the issue of that taped up ankle he has. Moreno was very effective against the Patriots. Yes Moreno was running hard and he looked fantastic, but the line was opening up truck sized holes for him. Ball should be able to find some of the holes and catch a few passes out of the backfield. At this price, 15 points is a good day. Also considered: HOU RB Dennis Johnson $3,800 vs NE – I doubt Tate gets as much work as Johnson does this week. The ribs seem to really be slowing him down.

WR: Robert Woods $3,400 vs ATL – Woods has been practicing in full all this week and that's great news for E.J. Manuel who will look to get things going with his fellow rookie teammate early and often. Woods and Manuel have shown a lot of chemistry early in the season and how could you not like this matchup against the lowly Falcons. Atlanta gives up the 7th most fantasy points to opposing Quarterbacks. Playing in neighboring Toronto, the Bills will be the home team and I expect the crowd to be fairly one-sided for the Bills in this one. Also considered: MIN WR Cordarelle Patterson $3,400 vs Chicago. He was one easy endzone grab away from a 20 point fantasy day last week. This is a steal.

TE: Jordan Cameron $4,100 vs JAX – Pounce on Cameron this week. Put him in EVERY lineup and don't look back. Jacksonville is the 2nd worst defensive unit at stopping the tight end and has allowed 8 scores on the season and 68 yards per game. Weeden is back and while he's no Brian Hoyer, he has proven he can get the ball to Cameron. Also considered: DEN TE Julius Thomas $5,00 vs KC – He's back and he's dominant. This price is too low, injury or not.

DST: Colts $2,600 vs TEN – Since week 9, the Colts have given up 132 points. The QBs putting up the points on this list are shocking. Kellen Clemens, Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Carson Palmer. They seemed to figure out the titans in the second half of that game two weeks ago, so I'm willing to bet they get back on track this week. After two road games and a tough loss at home against the Rams, the team is in desperation mode and at Lucas Oil Stadium, this team will find a way to fend off Fitzpatrick and company and put up double digit fantasy points for the defense. Also considered: Chiefs DST, $2,800 vs DEN especially with Moreno likely out, but I expect a lot of teams to take the Chiefs.

Let's take it down this week gang! No second guessing, no looking back. Thank you for reading, now here's your link to the Week 13 Contest.

Happy Thanksgiving!
