Championship Round team fantasy preview: Patriots
Tom Brady is really, really good. Yet ironically, Patriots nation should probably root for a subdued stat line from the Golden Boy on Sunday. Jump in front and controlling the clock with the ground game is the ideal formula, which is the exact opposite of the Week 12 contest, which, granted did end with the Patriots winning. Brady went 34 of 50 for 344 yards and three touchdown passes in New England's comeback. We know he can deliver the goods in whichever manner the Patriots need. With a quick start and strong run attack, New England won't need Brady to pile up the fantasy points. Of course, if we're talking fun, Brady vs. Manning in a shootout is the true fantasy ideal.
The Kicker and the Defense
Stephen Gostkowski failed to attempt a field goal against the Colts after taking at least two kicks in every game this season including the win over Denver. The Broncos allowed the fifth fewest field goal attempts in the NFL this season. That's a logical stat considering kicking field goals against such an explosive offense is to, as Sean Connery would so, like bringing a knife to a gunfight. ...The Pats are not attractive defensively seeing as Peyton Manning rarely is sacked. For those feeling as if the future Hall of Fame quarterback could throw a pick-six in a tight game, knock yourself out,
On the other side…
The Patriots pain in Week 12 wasn't so much Peyton Manning, but Knowshon Moreno, who gashed the defense for 224 yards and a touchdown on 37 carries. New England's defense continues to lose bodies, most recently inside backer Brandon Spikes, so the Broncos could find success on the ground once again. The thing is New England would prefer Moreno running then let Manning get into a rhythm.
