Week 7: Injury Update
Through 5 games, Felix has been average at best, averaging 51 YPG on the ground with 1 TD. Based on Jones' injury history (missed 12 games in his first 3 seasons), we could see him missing a month with the high ankle sprain suffered in the first half of the week 6 loss in New England. Demarco Murray (rookie 3rd round pick from Oklahoma) is the likely beneficiary of the Felix Jones injury. Murray has struggled in a limited role, totaling 24 carries for 71 yards (pedestrian 3 YPC). Despite the favorable match-ups with St Louis and Philly, temper your expectations as we expect a pass happy approach from Dallas over the next few weeks. The presence of Tashard Choice could also render the Big D backfield a committee if Murray fails to show improvement.
Week 7 marks the 3rd straight game that AJ will likely miss since suffering a hamstring injury against Pittsburgh in week 4. Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter have alternated productive fantasy games over the past two weeks and veteran Derrick Mason figures to see additional snaps this week against Tennessee's 12th ranked pass defense. TE Owen Daniels is the only surefire Houston receiving option, but Jones and Walter are worth a gamble if your roster is decimated by injuries or BYE weeks.
Through five games the rookie from Alabama has flashed the skills that led the Falcons to give up a king's ransom in order to move up in April's draft. He's averaging 71 YPG, but has yet to find the end zone. In the week 5 Sunday night loss to Green Bay JJ came up lame late in the 3rd quarter with a hamstring injury and was forced to miss the week 6 win over Carolina. Harry Douglas got the start and finished with 2 catches for 57 yards as Atlanta relied heavily on the ground game. Jones has yet to practice this week, but the Falcons are optimistic that he'll be back for week 7 for a crucial road game in Detroit. Jones posted back to back 100 yard performances in weeks 3/4, but was held to one catch for 16 yards against Green Bay. If Jones is able to return, he'll be a decent WR2 option for week 7 in what figures to be a high scoring game in Detroit.
