Week 8: Injury Update
The Vikings' dynamic playmaker has battled injuries and anemic quarterback play from McNabb, which has many of his owners scratching their heads. The week 7 insertion of rookie Christian Ponder breathed new life into the entire Viking offense as they scored 27 points and were in position to upset the defending super bowl champions. Harvin's ongoing rib injury forced him to the sidelines for the 2nd half of the week 7 loss, as WR Michael Jenkins and TE Visanthe Shiancoe emerged as Ponder's two go-to options in the passing game. On the season, Harvin is averaging a pedestrian 39 YPG receiving and has yet to find the end zone. He missed Wednesday's practice, but the Vikings expect their best WR to suit up when they travel to Carolina to face Cam and crew (Harvin could be labeled a true game time decision for week 8 and makes for no better than a WR3 at less than 100% in the Vikings' run first offense).
Week 7 marked the 3rd straight game that AJ sat out since suffering a hamstring injury against Pittsburgh in week 4. Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter have alternated productive fantasy games and Owen Daniels has seen the greatest increase in targets. Those that remained patient with AJ could be rewarded in week 8 as he returned to practice on Wednesday and head coach Gary Kubiak reported that he went through a full practice and his surgically repaired hamstring didn't seem to limit the superstar WR. Houston hosts an emerging Jacksonville defense that ranks 6th in pass defense (only allowing 196 YPG). QB Matt Schaub will only be starter worthy if Andre Johnson is able to give it a go and early reports seem favorable.
