Week 10: Sit 'Em
Gaffney was a huge pick-up in most leagues over recent weeks, but he has since faded quickly from most owners' radar. Gaffney is not the first receiving option for Beck on the Washington passing schemes. Fred Davis (and now Roy Helu) will pick up the slack in the struggling passing game. Gaffney might be good for 40-50 yards receiving, but overall, his value has dropped in that he does not have a confident and consistent QB throwing his direction. I think Washington will keep spreading the ball around and using their safety valves of Davis and whichever running back Shanahan favors each week. Look for Gaffney to be an up and down option at wide out from this point forward. I would keep him on your bench or look for other options on waivers.
Mike Williams has come on in recent weeks with some increased production, but I do not think he is going to be able to bring it this week matched up against corner Jonathan Joseph. Joseph has been able to shut down many solid wide outs so far this season and I think Williams is in for a stout match-up this week. I suspect that Tampa Bay will look for other options in the receiving game if Williams is challenged significantly. Josh Freeman will need to concentrate on getting passes completed and if Williams is taken away, Freeman will have to look elsewhere early and often. I think Williams will be held to 5 or less receptions for under 45 yards and no score.
