Sebastian Janikowski gets the biggest contract for any NFL kicker ever

The Oakland Raiders made a questionable move on Tuesday; I know, what else is new? This one involves kicker Sebastian Janikowski. Coming off the most accurate season of his career, Janikowski was given a new, fat contract: one worth $16 million over the next four seasons. It is the richest contract for any kicker in NFL history. The deal includes $9 million in guaranteed money. Janikowski, the 17th overall pick from the 2000 draft, made 26 of his 29 attempts this past season, which includes going 6-for-8 in attempts beyond 50 yards. He hit all 17 extra-point tries and has exactly 1,000 points for his career.

Fantasy Analysis:

That seems like way too much money to spend on a kicker. Kicker is an ignored position in fantasy, as well it should be. Sure, the points still count, but there is no way to predict weekly production and there is always a ton of turnover from season to season. That's why this note is important. If you've played fantasy football for a while, you know what I am going to say. If you are a novice, heed these words: Do not do like the Raiders; do not pay for kicking. Always use the last pick of your draft on the kicker. You have as good a chance of coming up with the upcoming season's top kicker. I just know this news is going to raise Janikowski's fantasy stock. Fine with me. I can't wait to see drafters waste a valuable late-round pick on him. He may be the highest-paid kicker, but he is certainly not the best in fantasy and he won't be close until the Raiders find a consistent offense.
