Tampa Bay SS Mark Barron absent as Buccaneers rookie camp opens

Tampa Bay was without their top 2012 draft pick SS Mark Barron @M_B_24 as they opened their rookie training camp at One Buc Place on Wednesday, July 18. Selected 7th overall in the first round, Barron is the Buccaneers lone remaining unsigned pick from the 2012 NFL draft. At the time of writing, Barron is also one of thirteen first round selections who are still negotiating their rookie contract.

Fantasy Analysis:

Barron has been projected as the cream of the crop when it comes to the 16 safeties that were selected back in April. Likened to a Brian Dawkins type hitter with a nose for the ball, this 6'1" 213 pound former Alabama Crimson Tide standout is expected to step in and pay immediate dividends for the Buccaneers. Based on their 2011 numbers, the Tampa D needs all the help it can get. Expect Barron to hit camp sooner rather than later.

Tampa Bay was horrible on defense last season as they allowed an NFL high 494 points. That was good for 32nd overall and 45 points worse than the Minnesota Vikings who finished 31st with 449 points allowed. The Buccaneers also allowed a league high 12.67 average yards per catch. Look elsewhere for your fantasy defensive unit on Draft Day 2012.
