Jaguars no closer to deal with RB Maurice Jones-Drew

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting a source familiar with the Jones-Drew-Jaguar contract situation says the two sides are no closer to a resolution. According to the source, the holdout is expected to last through August and maybe even into September. The talks are reportedly cordial, and daily, but are far from being resolved. Jacksonville's new ownership and front office have repeatedly stated they will not renegotiate Jones-Drew's remaining 2 years of an original 5-year deal, leaving the two sides at a standstill.

Fantasy Analysis:

The longer Jones-Drew holds out, the further the NFL's 2011 leading rusher will fall in drafts and create panic in his current owners. I am avoiding MJD at his current ADP of late 1st, early 2nd round price, but in the event owners are willing to take Jones-Drew they must grab back-up, and current starting RB, Rashad Jennings @RashadJennings. Jennings has proven he is a complete back who can handle the load and assuming his strong play continues throughout the preseason, Jacksonville may be prepared to enter the season without Jones-Drew. The Jaguar-MJD stalemate is relatively early and owners/potential owners alike should acknowledge that as Jones-Drew is a veteran who may just be looking to avoid training camp a la Brett Favre. However, it is a situation owners should continue to keep an eye on as the communicaton between the two sides progresses.
