San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was carted off the field on Friday night after landing awkwardly on his hip. The injury is only a bruise and head coach Jim Harbaugh went on to say that the team "dodged a bullet" since it could have been a far more serious problem. Smith tweeted, "Just a heads up I'm doing ok. Thanks."
It's been a rough offseason for Smith after he was stabbed a house party in late June and he was also arrested for drunk driving in January. Those charges were eventually reduced to reckless driving. With all this in mind, it may be more important for Smith to get his mind right first and foremost. A bruised hip is nothing compared to living the fast life off-the-field. Smith's talent is obvious and the 49ers need to be able to count on him for the next decade.
