Cowboys TE Jason Witten injures spleen

During the Dallas Cowboys preseason game on Monday, tight end Jason Witten @JasonWitten suffered a spleen injury. It's possible that Witten may not be ready for the team's regular season opener. Although his spleen has not ruptured, he is dealing with internal bleeding. Surgery may be required which would push back his return, potentially indefinitely. Currently, he's expected to be out three weeks.

Fantasy Analysis:

Just when you thought you had heard of every football injury that exists, a new one comes along like this. Witten is a mid-tier TE1 who can usually be had around Rounds 5 or 6. The potential for him to miss playing time will cause a sudden slide on his draft status but if he doesn't require surgery, he's a nice value assuming there are no lingering ill effects. For those owners who take Witten, grabbing a solid backup should also be considered due to the uniqueness of this injury.
