New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes is hoping to make his preseason debut Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. He's missed the first two games because of bruised ribs and back tightness. At least we knew about those pains; we didn't know that Holmes is also feeling it in his hamstring until he brought it up with the media earlier this week. Still, Holmes says he's ready.
"I would say I'm ready to roll but I know the trainers don't want to hear that from me right now," Holmes said. "... I feel pretty confident that I can come back and play this week. The things the training staff has been doing with me have been pretty good."
As if Holmes didn't have enough red flags surrounding his fantasy stock, he seems to be aching all over. But we'll get to see him in a nationally televised game Sunday. FFToolbox has rightfully lowered him to No. 37 in its WR ranks. These injuries, the Sanchez-Tebow fiasco-to-be, the lack of a second receiver to take away any attention at all, and the Jets' continued commitment to the run are just some of the reasons why I would not want Holmes on my team. But I guess as a clear WR4 right now, you could do worse.
