After posting stellar numbers in the NFL 2012 preseason, New Orleans QB Drew Brees appears ready to pick up where he left off last year. Following a lights out 2011 season (5,476 PYD and 47 TD) the Saints pivot went 32-of-47 (68.1%) for 357 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions in four preseason contests. In his final tune-up, prior to Week 1 at home versus Washington, Brees toasted the Texans for 179 yards and two perfect TD passes.
As I have believed all along, the Saints will not skip a beat with their make-shift coaching staff as they move past the "Bountygate" scandal and battle the Atlanta Falcons for top spot in the NFC South. Brees looked to be in mid-season form against Houston last weekend. After New Orleans was down 14-0 in the first quarter, Cool Breeze hit WR Lance Moore with a 20-yard laser beam to get the Saints on the board.
TE Jimmy Graham capped a seven-play 77 yard second quarter ending drive (in 1:53) with an eight-yard TD reception. The drive opened with a 57-yard bomb to Graham that was called back on a penalty. After that, Brees hit four different receivers, and also had one scramble that netted 10 yards, as the clock ticked down. Having the first pick in my Main Event Draft (RB Ray Rice) means my chances of getting Brees are slim and none – with slim about to leave town. Fantasy owners that like to lock up their starting QB early, Brees is a slightly better option than Packers QB Aaron Rodgers in my opinion. Get set for fireworks from the Saints offense during the NFL 2012 campaign!
