The Chargers are trying to find someone to pick up the slack for as long as running back Ryan Mathews is inactive on game days. Head coach Norv Turner would like it if Ronnie Brown was that guy. Turner told Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego on Saturday that he would like to see Brown "very involved" in Monday night's game versus the Raiders. However, Brown will also cede a number of carries to Le'Ron McClain and Curtis Brinkley .
If I could trust that Brown was going to get 15-20 touches, I would consider him a high-end flex play. But I just can't. McClain is probably going to get all of the goal-line carries, and I don't think anyone is going to make a statement that they deserve the ball more than the other two guys. Plus, even if Brown starts and gets the plurality of touches, he's not the same player he was five or six years ago. While watching him play over the past two years, it was clear that Brown lost some juice in his legs.
