Eagles waive S Jaiquawn Jarrett and sign WR Mardy Gilyard

In the 2011 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles selected safety Jaiquawn Jarrett @jaiquawnjarrett in the second round. At the time, it was considered a slight reach, but Jarrett was widely considered a potential star that was garnering mid-round consideration. The Eagles waived Jarrett after inconsistent play pushed him further and further down on the depth chart. Jarrett was cut to give a roster spot to wide receiver Mardy Gilyard.

Fantasy Analysis:

Jarrett was a popular dynasty pick a year ago, yet things move very fast in the NFL. He struggled in coverage during the preseason and often took bad angles. He's the type of player who took a few too many chances in the Eagles' defensive scheme. Gilyard comes in as the team's possible No. 3 receiver with WR Riley Cooper @RileyCooper_14 battling back from a broken collarbone. WR Jeremy Maclin @jmac_18 has a hip pointer and WR Jason Avant has a wrist contusion. Gilyard will give the team some depth at a position where injuries are a growing concern.
