The New England Patriots have signed free agent tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. after finding out that TE Aaron Hernandez would be out anywhere from four to six weeks. Winslow signed a one-year contract after spending his last three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 2004 first-round pick was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in May and was later waived after refusing to reduce his salary.
Winslow's fantasy potential remains to be seen. Of course it's possible that all that targets Hernandez would have seen could go direct to Winslow. On the other hand, Winslow may be utilized more as a blocker or this injury creates more opportunities for WRs Brandon Lloyd , Wes Welker , and Julian Edelman . The Patriots are known for their interesting strategies that can vary greatly week to week. If you're in desperate need for a replacement TE, there might be better options available who are already productive.
