Cardinals running back Beanie Wells was forced to leave Sunday's victory over the Eagles due to a toe injury. He gained just 18 yards on eight carries in little more than a half and then told reporters after the game that he might have a case of turf toe. As with many of the Sunday injuries, Wells and the team will know more after he undergoes tests Monday.
Turf toe is an injury that can linger for an entire season and rob a running back of speed, cutting ability and elusiveness. This type of injury would be a big problem for Wells if he possessed any of those qualities, but since he pretty much doesn't, who knows? I figure this ailment won't change the way Beanie has been running this season: poorly. The bright spot here is that Ryan Williams ran with authority while Wells was out of the game and gained 66 yards on his final seven carries. Even if Beanie is able to play, I'm certainly not interested in him next week against Miami's very strong run defense. Williams, however, is looking more and more appealing.
