Due to the dislocated collarbone injury sustained by St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola , rookie receiver Chris Givens will now start alongside Brandon Gibson . Givens has four receptions for 112 yards and a TD through five games. Two of his receptions have gone for long gains of 51 and 52 yards, respectively. Behind him, former Philadelphia Eagles receiver Steve Smith and second-year receiver Austin Pettis will compete to be the team's slot option.
Opportunities like this are rare for rookie wideouts. Givens will see a big jump in snaps and targets although he has a long way to go to replace Amendola's production. Gibson is the obvious choice for fantasy owners. He is a Top 50 fantasy WR although it's premature to consider anything more than a bye-week replacement. Gibson has 13 receptions for 184 yards and two TDs, which means he is on pace for a career-best season.
