Rams RB Steven Jackson says 2012 might be his last season

Could 29-year-old Rams running back Steven Jackson @sj39 be playing his final game this Sunday? Jackson wouldn't rule it out Thursday. When the topic of retirement came up with the media, Jackson said he would prefer to leave in the fashion of Barry Sanders and not hang on too long in the league. He was then asked when he might play his last game.
"Maybe this last one," he said. "Those hits hurt.
"I'll allow myself that time to sit back and reflect and think about things I've accomplished in my career and what I've done this season. And think about how much longer I want to play this game, as well."
Jackson has one more year left on his current contract, but he is expected to opt out and test free agency.

Fantasy Analysis:

Jackson did laugh as he suggested that 2012 could be the end. I don't think Jackson is going to hang 'em up, but hey, you never know. We certainly didn't expect Sanders to leave and when he did, we thought he would be back before long. Maybe Jackson has more he wants to accomplish in life. He certainly has accomplished a lot on the football field as he is one of only four running backs who have gained more than 10,000 rushing yards and 5,000 receiving yards -- Marcus Allen, Marshall Faulk and Tiki Barber are the others. Jackson has been a beast for the majority of his career, an underrated stud, and it's a real shame that a player of his talents has never been on a winning team.
Fantasy-wise, where Jackson ends up, if he ends up anywhere in the league, will be definitely worth watching. I don't think he will return the Rams, which would make current backup Daryl Richardson @DRICH_26 a popular 2013 sleeper.
