The Browns interviewed or were linked to at least 10 men in their search to find their next head coach. That search ended Thursday with the hiring of Rob Chudzinski. Chudzinski, 44, spent the past two seasons as the Panthers' offensive coordinator. This will be his third stint as a coach in Cleveland. He was the team's tight ends coach in 2004 and then its offensive coordinator from 2007-08.
As has been mentioned in many profiles about Chudzinski, he is a guy who likes to implement a down-the-field offense. He needs a strong-armed quarterback, and he has got one of those in Brandon Weeden . Chudzinski helped Derek Anderson -- yeah, that guy -- become a Pro Bowl player in 2007, so Weeden should improve with his tutelage. Chudzinski also has a major gamebreaker at wide receiver in Josh Gordon , who should love this news. Chudzinski has always focused on getting his tight ends heavily involved, so 24-year-old athete Jordan Cameron is someone to watch next summer. Ben Watson , 32, is an unrestricted free agent.
On the other side, this could be quite a loss for the Panthers. They brought head coach Ron Rivera back for another season, and Chudzinski was expected to stay on as well. Everyone, myself included, talked about how that should help Cam Newton and Co. carry their impressive late-season showings over to next year. And now Newton will head into the 2013 season most likely having to learn a new offense. That could present some major bumps in the road for him.
