Rams running back Steven Jackson has until March 12 to decide if he wants to void the final year of his contract. There shouldn't be much suspense surrounding that decision, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He writes that it is "almost universally expected" inside team headquarters that Jackson will void the deal and test free agency. However, that doesn't mean Jackson's career in St. Louis is over. Head coach Jeff Fisher said Friday that he wants to re-sign Jackson and there is "plenty of time" to do so.
The Rams should certainly try to keep S-Jax since they have just a couple of 5-foot-10-inch RBs behind him in Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead . I would like to see Richardson get more carries, but there is no way that he is ready to be a lead runner. Jackson will turn 30 prior to next season and is the league's active leader in carries. My early guess is that he remains in St. Louis.
