With both Rashard Mendenhall and Ryan Williams now under contract, the Cardinals are going to have to decide who they want to be their starting running back. It's pretty obvious that head coach Bruce Arians is in Mendenhall's corner.
"As a running back, [Mendenhall] is the total package," Arians said in a Wednesday press release. "He's a big, strong, every-down back with speed who can pass block and also catch the ball. I've said before: He's a big man with little-people feet, meaning he can run like he's 180 (pounds) but also pound the ball like he's 230."
Arians wants an every-down back, and he feels like he has one in Mendenhall. Of course, Arians has a history with Mendenhall going back to their days with the Steelers, so he may just be talking up one of his favorites. That doesn't mean you should forget about Williams. He is extremely talented, and I think he can be even better than Mendy if he can remain upright. Some sort of training camp battle will come here. Don't put too much into what Arians says in March. Stay tuned.
