I really, really hate getting swept up in coach speak, especially when it's so obvious to detect. I shouldn't let it affect my emotions one way or the other. But sometimes, I just can't help myself. Titans head coach Mike Munchak talking about running back Shonn Greene today is one of those times.
"We're not going to have him as a short-yardage back, a goal-line back and four-minute back, and that's all he does," Munchak said of Greene on Tuesday. We feel he can play all three downs. He may get a series where he gets going and we're taking over the line of scrimmage and you want that runner in there, and we leave him in there."
What the what? Is Munchak really saying that he's cool letting Shonn Greene stay in the game once he "gets going," and thereby forgetting about Chris Johnson ? I know Johnson has been a relative disappointment the past couple of seasons, but even during those times, he has still been a clearly better player than Greene, who averaged 3.9 yards per carry last season. I am fine with Greene taking over around the goal line and in short yardage. But if Munchak actually starts giving Greene the opportunity to be a three-down back with Johnson ready on the sidelines, he will be doing this entire offense a disservice.
