The 4 p.m. Eastern time deadline for the Packers to either cut tight end Jermichael Finley or pay him his $3 million roster bonus has come and gone. The Packers decided to take the latter route. Finley announced Monday on Twitter that he has been retained by Green Bay for this season. He caught 61 passes for 667 yards and two touchdowns last year.
Finley is one of the more frustrating fantasy players out there. He is entering his physical prime and has the physical skills to be a mismatch for defenses. He is in a great offense with a top-flight QB throwing him the ball. However, Finley caused some controversy when he talked about a lack of chemistry and trust between him and Aaron Rodgers during the season. He also drops too many throws and doesn't run great routes. Finley looks like he can be a dominant tight end, but he still has major weaknesses as an NFL player. He can be an easy TE1 at a rather thin position, and he should more targets with Greg Jennings out of the picture. But Finley should enter this season as a TE2 in fantasy.
