Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak told the media, "It's gonna be a very competitive situation but we took him (former Clemson wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins ) there because we expect him to play very, very early." Hopkins was selected with the 27th overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He stirred up controversy when it was revealed he had trashed his hotel room at the NFL Combine. Last season, he caught 82 passes for 1,405 yards and 18 TDs.
Better late than never. The Texans have finally pursued a first-round talent to be paired with Andre Johnson. Hopkins is close to being NFL-ready but it could be argued he wasn't even the best receiver at Clemson last season. Keep an eye out for a receiver named Sammy Watkins to be a first round pick next season. In any case though, Hopkins does a lot of little things well, but one thing that'll need immediate improvement is his blocking. His ability to run great routes though will put him on the field immediately.
