We know the Browns aren't sold on Brandon Weeden , and we've heard that he will have to compete against backup Jason Campbell in training camp just to be the Week 1 starter. But just in case you thought the Browns were bluffing, here's an update from Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer to show you that they aren't.
"Backup quarterback Jason Campbell will be given a legitimate shot to beat out Brandon Weeden for the starting job, and the competition between the two is more than just lip service," Cabot wrote Friday.
I would like to see what Weeden can do in a Norv Turner-led offense with Trent Richardson, Josh Gordon, Greg Little, Davone Bess and Jordan Cameron at his disposal. That's quite a supporting cast for any quarterback, but the strong-armed Weeden should be able to take advantage of it more than Campbell, who was nothing short of awful when we saw him start last year against the 49ers while with the Bears. Campbell isn't that bad, but Weeden should be able to win the gig. He could be an intriguing QB2 this season.
