I don't know many people who saw Cecil Shorts ' 2012 breakout coming. The Mount Union product did next to nothing in 2011, and given the Jaguars' quarterback situation, it was difficult to predict consistent success for any of their pass catchers. Shorts posted some nice numbers in September, but those were made possible mostly by long touchdown catches, and those games were mixed in with a couple of duds.
Shorts didn't find his groove until October, but when he did, he was one of fantasy football's most pleasant surprises. He totaled at least 10 fantasy points in seven of his last nine games before a concussion ended his season.
Shorts admits that the worries about just making the team are now gone, but he is motivated to prove 2012 wasn't a fluke.
"This year coming in, I feel like the stress is off," Shorts said to the Jaguars' official website. "I'm not satisfied. I want to prove myself more than last year -- this year even now. It's fun for me. I'm more focused. I know I can do it. My goal is to be elite, so when I'm working and running routes, it's a lot more fun to look forward to."
The Jags' quarterback situation is still far less than ideal, but what's to say Shorts can't do it again with the same cast? He gained 979 yards and scored seven touchdowns in just 14 games and should be drafted as a high-end WR3.
