In another great moment in coach speak, here is Bills head coach Doug Marrone talking about his rookie quarterback on Friday:
"From my standpoint .... E.J. Manuel has done better (as a rookie) than any of the other organizations I've been a part of," Marrone said, via the Bills' official Twitter feed.
Before becoming head honcho in Buffalo, Marrone spent 2002-05 as the Jets' offensive line coach. He was also the Saints' offensive coordinator from 2006-08. If you really want to take Marrone's words seriously, he's basically saying that Manuel now is ahead of Marques Colston, Reggie Bush, Carl Nicks and others when they were rookies. Although it seems to unfair to compare all rookies across all positions. The only quarterback drafted by either of those two teams when Marrone was on the staff was Brooks Bollinger by the Jets in 2003.
So, yes, E.J. Manuel is better than Brooks Bollinger. Success!
Marrone's lauding doesn't erase the fact that Manuel will have to earn his starting job in training camp.
