Lions WR Patrick Edwards 'will be a big-time player for us this year'

Those are the words of Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson, and he guarantees it.
"Patrick Edwards is playing hell of some ball right now," Burleson said Friday. "... He was my dark horse last year before he tweaked his hamstring, and he's not so much of a dark horse now.
"He's just a guy that needs to prove he can stay healthy and consistent with his play, and I guarantee you he'll be a big-time player with us this year."

Fantasy Analysis:

The Lions signed Edwards as an undrafted free agent last year. In 2011, he was Conference USA's Offensive Player of the Year. He caught 20 touchdowns and was a major threat as a receiver and a returner. He spent time on Detroit's practice squad as a rookie until a torn quadriceps muscle shut him down. He is small but has definite playmaking skills. Edwards might end up being the Lions' lead return man this year, and given their lack of proven, healthy talent at wideout other than Calvin Johnson and Burleson, maybe he becomes their No. 3 or No. 4 WR at some point. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Edwards is a guy to watch right now, not own.
