There is a lot of competition ahead of the Ravens for their No. 2 wide receiver spot. Jacoby Jones , Deonte Thompson, Tommy Streeter , Tandon Doss and other wideouts will all get their shot to prove they deserve a promotion, an opportunity to start and to pick up the slack behind Torrey Smith this season.
For what it's worth, Smith hopes his co-starter comes from the group of players that is already in house.
"I think that, obviously, our goal is to try to make sure that [general manager Ozzie Newsome] doesn't have to go out there and get another vet, and I think we take that as a kind of challenge for us," Smith said, via The Baltimore Sun. "We know this offense. We're looking forward to the challenge. We're all getting better every day."
It's June 1, so, in NFL life, it's still early. A couple of days ago, the Carroll County Times said Jones is the early favorite to start. Last week, the Sun the reported that the team thinks Thompson has the inside track. Jones has the most experience, and he was torching the 49ers the last time we saw him play. But it's unknown if he can actually handle the extra work. You're not drafting any WR here other Smith, but the winner of this job out of camp is going to get a big boost in fantasy value.
