Giants WR Victor Cruz to sign RFA tender

Giants WR Victor Cruz to sign RFA tender

While the Giants and wide receiver Victor Cruz @TeamVic continue to make progress at a snail's pace toward a long-term deal, Cruz is signing one contract Thursday. He told ESPN's Josina Anderson that he intends to sign his restricted free-agent tender offer at the team's facility today. The deal is worth $2.879 million. The Giants would have been able to reduce Cruz's tender to $590,000 if he didn't sign the offer by June 17, although a source told there were no indications that the Giants would have exercised that power.
That source also told PFT that Cruz could still hold out during training camp. He would be subject to a $30,000 fine for each day of camp missed.

Fantasy Analysis:

This doesn't change Cruz's fantasy value at all. Since he is now under contract, he will be penalized financially for holding out of training camp. But even if he never reports and gets docked every day, Cruz would still stand to make more money this season than if the Giants lowered his tender offer to $590,000 next week. I said on Tuesday's FFToolbox Podcast that I would be concerned if we head into the second week of August and Cruz, still without a long-term contract, isn't present at camp. Right now? Not so much. He remains a WR1.
