We know that the last thing Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians wants out of his running game is a committee attack. He wants one guy whom he can depend on, and Arians singled out running back Rashard Mendenhall back in March as a player who can do everything he asks. Three months later, it seems like nothing has changed. Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Radio in Arizona tweeted Thursday that Mendenhall has been "hitting the holes, good in pass protection, catching a ball (in) the backfield, clearly the number 1 RB."
The Cardinals are going to hold a battle in training camp between Mendenhall, Ryan Williams , Stepfan Taylor , and Andre Ellington to see how this position shakes out. But Mendenhall should be considered the heavy favorite. He could be RB2 material by August. I currently have Mendenhall slotted just outside that range at 29th in my personal RB rankings.
