The Jets signed Kellen Winslow to a one-year deal on Friday. He worked out for the Jets earlier in the week and left quite a positive impression with head coach Rex Ryan. Winslow, who will turn 30 next month, saw his only playing time last season come during his 10-day stint with the Patriots. He caught one pass.
Oh, darn. Just as the fantasy football world was being swept up in Jeff Cumberland mania, the Jets pour some cold water on it. Seriously, Winslow will have a decent chance to become the Jets' starter with a solid showing in camp. He was a volume receiver with the Buccaneers from 2009-11 and no longer possesses the down-the-field athleticism he once had. He might have value as a TE2 as the Jets struggle to find a go-to target.
Also, when asked about Winslow's inclusion, Cumberland gave this priceless quote:
"With my size and [Winslow's] speed ... I would be more like Gronkowski, he would be more like Hernandez."
Hopefully the hearty laugh that results from reading those words carries you through the day.
