Details are still coming in, but here is what is known so far in what has been a very active morning on the Aaron Hernandez front.
Hernandez was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with the investigation into the homicide of Odin Lloyd. No charges have been announced, and the Massachusetts State Police stated on its Twitter account that the charges against Hernandez will not be revealed until his arraignment later Wednesday at Attleboro District Court.
Less than two hours after Hernandez was seen being taken from his house in handcuffs, the Patriots announced via Twitter that they have released him.
Dealing strictly from a football standpoint ... Hernandez is now on waivers and could be claimed by some team by 4 p.m. Thursday, although that seems extremely unlikely. it's an alarmingly quick response from the Patriots, who are willing to take on a lot of dead money to wash themselves of a major distraction. Going forward, Jake Ballard 's fantasy stock just keeps climbing. With Hernandez now officially out, and Rob Gronkowski still very iffy for Week 1, Ballard looks like the odds-on favorite to open the season as the starter. It will be interesting to see how his ADP rises. I think It's too early to put him higher than the top 15-20 at the position, but he could move into TE1 range as we learn more and more about Gronkowski's availability.
It's an understatement to say this is not a good development for Tom Brady's fantasy value. He is still a QB1, but I probably have to knock him down a few notches in my rankings. The Patriots' receiving corps is littered with injury concerns and unproven youngsters.
