Aaron Hernandez is an alleged murderer. He was arraigned in Attleboro District Court on Wednesday and charged with six crimes, including the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found on June 17. Hernandez was also charged with carrying a firearm without a license, two counts of possession of a large-capacity firearm, and two counts of possession of a firearm without a valid identification card. Hernandez's defense team requested bail, which was denied.
Hernandez was arrested Wednesday morning and then released by the Patriots less than two hours later.
The prosecution said during the arraignment that Hernandez "orchestrated" the "execution" of Lloyd. Hernandez allegedly shot Lloyd five times, including twice in the chest while he was lying on the ground. The prosecution said there is video evidence of Hernandez carrying a firearm through his house on the night of the murder and saying, "You can't trust anyone anymore." They said a shell casing was found in Hernandez's rental car. The prosecution also said there were text messages sent on the night of the murder from Lloyd to his sister where Lloyd asked, "you see who I left with?" He later added, "NFL." The last text message has Lloyd telling his sister that he is with Hernandez, "just so you know." The firearm charges are related to the guns found in Hernandez's home, but the murder weapon is still missing.
And there's more evidence. What can you say? It's a sad, disgusting event. A man is dead and many lives have been shattered. I understand innocence until proof of guilt, but I think it's easy to say that Aaron Hernandez's NFL career is all but over.
