Report: Lions QB Matthew Stafford getting 3-year contract extension

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford @Staff_9, 25, has two years remaining on his rookie deal, but multiple sources have reported today that the Lions are going to extend him through the rest of his 20s. states on Twitter that Stafford will receive a three-year extension worth $53 million. Combined with his current contract, Stafford would be under team control for the next five years at the price of $76.5 million with $43 million guaranteed. Stafford's touchdown total dropped from 41 to 20 over the past two years, but he accumulated more than 4,900 passing yards in each of those seasons.

Fantasy Analysis:

Flacco, Romo, Rodgers, and now Stafford. Matt Ryan is next on the list of QBs who will get mega-rich this offseason. That is a lot of guaranteed cash, and Lions are hoping Stafford's completion percetage goes up with it. You have to assume Stafford's touchdown total will also go back up, and 5,000 yards with 30 scores is very realistic for him in 2013. Yet, he sits near the bottom half of players in the QB1 range. It's a deep position, folks.
