Just when it looks like the entire Philadelphia media is down on Michael Vick 's chances to be the Eagles' starting quarterback, one of his wide receivers swoops in to pick him up.
"In my opinion, honestly, I don't want to be put on the spot. I know y'all gonna do me like that, but Michael Vick, he's got a lot of confidence in himself," DeSean Jackson said during an interview with ESPN on Wednesday. "He's been there, going on 12 years in the NFL, and I think he'll get the job, honestly. Nick Foles is a great, great talent coming in from Arizona, actually a Pac-12 guy. He has the hype, he has the skills as well, too. Going into the camp, I think Michael Vick will probably be the starter, but we still don't know. I think Chip Kelly's gonna keep everybody honest and keep everybody open to it."
So, there's that. It's no surprise that Jackson throws his support behind the quarterback who has been throwing him the ball for three years. It doesn't mean anything at all, but it's nice to hear a player actually answer a question when asked to choose between teammates.
As long as we're on the topic of DeSean Jackson, let me say that I have not drafted him once in the 15 or so mocks that I have completed thus far. I didn't care to own him prior to this season because he is so hit-or-miss and for all of his game-breaking speed, he has scored just six touchdowns in his last 29 games. Now we have no idea how he will be used in Chip Kelly's offense. I'm on board with our ranking of DeSean Jackson at No. 49 among WRs.
