Since the Cowboys ran the ball 355 times last season -- the second-fewest carries in the NFL -- head coach Jason Garrett expectedly said Saturday that the team will run the ball more often in 2013. ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins passed that tidbit along through Twitter.
Garrett also said Saturday that while quarterback Tony Romo won't be on a "pitch count," the coaches will be very aware of how many throws he makes during camp as to not overwork him.
Running the ball more would be good for boh DeMarco Murray and Romo since it would make the Cowboys' offense more difficult to defend. But for that to happen, Murray has to stay healthy for once. Plus, no matter the increase in carries, the Cowboys will still only go as far as Romo's arm takes them. No reason to downgrade Dez Bryant and company because of this. Murray is a third-round fantasy pick.
