The Patriots got one of their more familiar faces back into the offensive huddle Thursday as wide receiver Julian Edelman was activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list. Edelman missed the team's entire offseason program after his rehab from a broken foot he suffered in December experienced a setback in May. He is vying to be the team's No. 2 wide receiver behind Danny Amendola . That competition includes rookies Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins and Josh Boyce.
Edelman has been on the Patriots for four seasons. He caught 21 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in nine games last year.
All three rookies have received snaps with the first-team offense, but as with all training camp battles right now, this one has a long way to go before it gets straightened out. I like Edelman as a deep sleeper in PPR leagues. You might remember him putting together some decent games early last season while Wes Welker was being ignored. But injuries have been a problem. A starting duo of Amendola and Edelman sounds very interesting yet fragile.
