You want some good news out of Jets camp? It sounds like Mark Sanchez is falling behind in the quarterback competition against Geno Smith. And now this:
Bilal Powell is basically the last man standing in the Jets' backfield. Chris Ivory has a hamstring injury, Joe McKnight is out because of an apparent concussion, and Mike Goodson has yet to report to camp with no sign of when he may return. Ivory is still penciled in as the Jets' opening-day starter, but he needs to get healed up. Right now, as Brian Costello of the New York Post put it, the Jets "have no idea what their running back rotation will look like..."
Costello also writes that wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been telling friends that he expects to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. He is coming back slowly from last season's Grade 4 Lisfranc fracture.
Good thing it's only Aug. 5 for the Jets' running backs, right? I don't know what will happen with Goodson, but Ivory and McKnight should be back at some time relatively soon. Ivory is a low-end RB2 even with his injury concerns.
Holmes missing just four games would be considered optimistic at this point. He recently said he didn't know if he would be able to play at all this season.
