A matter of money and youth has led to Dan Carpenter being relieved of his duties as the Dolphins' kicker. He was cut Wednesday, meaning fifth-round rookie Caleb Sturgis will start the season as Carpenter's replacement. Carpenter, 27, has a career field-goal percentage of 81.9, and he made the Pro Bowl in 2009. But injuries forced him to miss two games in each of the past two seasons, and the team saves $2.675 million with this move.
Not that you should be enthralled to read about most any kicker, but Carpenter is a good one who should be finding a new team soon. He finished among the top 10 in kicker fantasy points in 2009 and 2010.
